This thoughtfully crafted proposal introduces a 70bed care home for Frontier Estates, designed to bring new character and architectural interest to a currently unused plot beside a primary school in Honiton, Devon. Surrounded by established residential neighbourhoods, the scheme carefully responds to its context, with particular attention given to scale and massing. Positioned on a gentle rise, the building naturally becomes a focal point within the street scene, prompting a sensitive and wellbalanced design approach.
Drawing inspiration from Honiton’s architectural context, the scheme blends contemporary detailing with a modern interpretation of traditional Devonshire forms. A mix of red and cream brickwork is complemented by refined zinc accents that highlight the main entrance and frame elegant twostorey glazing to resident lounge areas. Opting for cream brick over local render enhances both durability and longterm sustainability.
The building is embraced by a compact yet beautifully landscaped garden, while mature trees along the southern boundary are preserved to provide natural screening. With sustainability, quality, and a strong sense of place at its core, this proposal offers a welcoming and wellconsidered addition to the community.
