This proposal is carefully shaped by its hillside setting, using the site’s natural contours to create a welcoming, splitlevel building that feels effortlessly rooted in its landscape. The design steps gracefully down the slope, helping the home blend sensitively with its surroundings.
Massing and elevation treatments respond directly to the local context: a calm twostorey presence to the east and a threestorey, context-driven façade to the west. Inspired by nearby homes built into similar terrain, the layout celebrates the character of the area while providing a modern, uplifting place to live.
A refined palette elevates the architecture—white brick with light grey mortar and detailed brickwork brings texture and depth, complemented by soft greyblue timbereffect cladding that lightens the overall composition. Thoughtfully placed glazing maximises daylight in communal spaces, and varied roof forms—gable ends, dormers, and shifting ridge lines—add personality while echoing local vernacular cues.
Together, these elements create a contemporary, contextaware care home that feels both distinctive and beautifully integrated into Kingsbridge’s landscape.
