This landmark project for Frontier Estates delivers a thoughtfully designed, 64 bed care home that celebrates both its residents and its surroundings. Inspired by the local vernacular, the architecture blends traditional forms with a fresh, contemporary character. A stepped massing strategy—from 1.5 to 2.5 storeys—works harmoniously with the natural topography, ensuring the building feels rooted within its landscape.
Inside, the home offers a rich mix of amenities to support wellbeing and community life, including bright day rooms, a welcoming café, a private dining space, and even an inhouse cinema. Every area is crafted to balance social connection with comfort and privacy.
The site’s ecological and geological sensitivities shaped the design in meaningful ways. A disused mine shaft supporting a rare bat species led to the creation of a bespoke bat bunker and ecological corridor, while the southern floodplain informed careful hydrological and landscaping solutions.
Beyond the building, immersive sensory gardens—with gazebos, varied planting, and accessible pathways—promote relaxation, engagement, and a restorative connection to nature.
