This highend residential project revitalises a Grade II listed folly within the picturesque Harewood Estate, blending contemporary design with sensitive conservation. Once derelict and in significant disrepair, the folly is transformed into a modern, functional home that celebrates its historic character while securing a sustainable future.
The original structure is preserved in its authentic form, complemented by a bold yet respectful zincclad firstfloor extension that appears to float above the aged stonework. A delicate glazed link connects the extension to a new openplan living block, maximising natural light while maintaining a minimal visual footprint. Inside, a striking freestanding staircase sits near the original stone walls without touching them—an elegant expression of the project’s “lighttouch” philosophy.
Nestled within a tranquil woodland clearing, the design opens southwards to capture sunlight and create a seamless indoor–outdoor flow. With a strong focus on sustainable materials and energy efficiency, the project showcases how adaptive reuse can balance heritage, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
