The redevelopment of The Beverley Arms Hotel brought new life to this charming Grade II listed landmark, blending careful restoration with a thoughtfully designed new accommodation wing. Our conservation expertise played a central role throughout, working closely with the Principal Contractor to guide both the design and delivery of the project.
A key focus was securing Listed Building Consent and restoring important heritage elements, including traditional windows and doors. We also developed the detailed design for a timberframed dining orangery, discreet rooflight integrations, and elegant internal glazed screens. Craftsmanship was at the heart of the project, reflected in bespoke joinery such as bar fittings, servery tables, and intricate castiron features.
The contemporary extension was constructed using a Steel Frame Solution (SFS), seamlessly tied into the historic fabric. This included the creation of complex staircases that naturally link old and new, enhancing movement and accessibility throughout the hotel.
Celebrated for its sensitivity and quality, the project won the RICS Yorkshire and Humber ‘Tourism and Leisure’ Award in 2019, acknowledging its successful blend of heritage and modern comfort.
The project was led by Martin Smith at the former practice wrdunn.
