Located within a Conservation Area of York, the Water End project brought new life to a Grade II listed terrace property through a sensitive twostorey extension. With the original building in significant disrepair, the design carefully balanced heritage restoration with contemporary enhancements to create a home that truly meets modern living needs.
A timberframed singlestorey extension reimagines the rear of the property, introducing a bright, openplan kitchen that forms the social heart of the home. Generous glazing and a roof light invite natural daylight to spill into the space, forging a fluid connection with the courtyard garden.
Addressing the low headroom on the first floor, a new dormer extension provides both functional height and a thoughtfully designed bathroom that improves everyday usability.
Architecturally, the contemporary additions stand confidently alongside the historic fabric. Clad in elegant black timber battening, the extensions create a vertical rhythm that contrasts yet complements the original structure. The result is a harmonious blend of old and new, ensuring the property is both preserved and enriched for generations to come.
